Garden Café

Welcome to the Garden Cafe

The Garden Cafe provides hot, fresh meals, salads, soups, desserts and other tasty options to the patients of Dauterive Hospital. The community also is invited to visit the cafe during regular business hours to enjoy a wide variety of foods from various ethnicities, cultures and other influences.

 

Soul food, heart-healthy, comfort food -- the Garden Cafe is a one-stop breakfast or lunch stop for such dishes as Gumbos, Tamale Pie, Smothered Okra with Shrimp, Jambalaya, Spaghetti, Almond Crusted Talapia, etc.

Registered dietician Joseph Kidd oversees the cafe menu, staff and other aspects of Hospitality Services at Dauterive Hospital. Kidd is open to suggestions on potential menu items to add to the heavily Cajun- and Creole-influenced line-up.

Meet the Chef

Chef James Broussard, above right, leads the Garden Cafe cooking team. He is a New Iberia native who graduated from Bay Area Culinary School in San Francisco who began his career as a dish washer at the Fairmont Hotel at Nob Hill in San Francisco. Chef Broussard used his education to spice up recipes handed down from generation-to-generation in his family. Signature dishes include Cornbread Dressing, Praline Pecan Ham and Gumbo.
